The first vet visit with your new pet – a relaxed start to a healthy future

2/28/23, 10:00 PM
Congratulations on your new family member! The first visit to the veterinarian is an important milestone for you and your furry friend. To help you both approach this appointment with ease, we have compiled the most important information for you here.
What you should bring to the first visit:
- Any available documents (vaccination record, documentation from the previous owner or animal shelter)
- Favorite treats or a toy as a reward
- For cats: a secure transport carrier
- For dogs: a leash and possibly a muzzle (if necessary)
- A list of your questions – we are happy to answer them!
Process of the First Visit:
- Getting Acquainted and Building Trust: We take the time to get to know you and your pet in a calm and relaxed manner. Your pet can first explore the examination room and become familiar with the new environment.
- Detailed Discussion: Together, we will go over your pet’s history and address any questions you have regarding nutrition, care, and training. You can share all your concerns with us in a comfortable atmosphere.
- Gentle Examination: We conduct the first veterinary check-up with special care and sensitivity, including:
- General health check
- Weight monitoring
- Inspection of fur, eyes, ears, and teeth
- Listening to the heart and lungs
- Palpation of the abdomen
- Personalized Consultation: After the examination, we will create an individual plan together for:
- Necessary vaccinations
- Recommended preventive check-ups
- Nutritional advice
- Care and health tips
Tips for a Relaxed Visit:
- Arrive a few minutes early to allow your pet to get used to the environment.
- Stay calm and relaxed – your pet can sense your mood.
- Reward your pet for brave behavior.
- Use our waiting area to let your pet interact with other animals.
After the Visit:
Give your pet some rest at home and reward them with extra cuddles or their favorite toy. A positive experience will help make future visits stress-free.
Our Practice Tip:
Schedule the first visit during a quieter time of the day. Early mornings or early afternoons tend to be calmer in the clinic, making the experience more pleasant for your pet.
